Every Newborn Action Plan
Based on the Every Newborn Lancet paper series, led by researchers at the London School of Hygiene & Topical Medicine’s Maternal, Adolescent, Reproductive and Child Health (MARCH) Centre, the Every Newborn Action Plan has seen progress since its launch last year:
Fifteen of 18 low-resource countries identified as having the highest newborn mortality rates have taken action to improve maternal and newborn care around the time of birth and to save lives…. at least four countries – Ghana, India, Indonesia and Pakistan – have finalised national newborn action plans and an additional six countries – Namibia, Philippines, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia – have improved their health programs to save the lives of women and newborns Summary of Every Newborn Action Plan progress report, Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health

Strategies towards Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality
The targets and strategies in this report are grounded in a human rights approach to maternal and newborn health, and focus on eliminating significant inequities that lead to disparities in access, quality and outcomes of care within and between countries. The side event helped galvanise momentum towards concrete political commitments and financial investments by country governments and development partners to meet the targets and carry out the strategies outlined in the report.
