Society for Family Health

Society for Family Health

The Society for Family Health is one of Nigeria’s largest non-governmental organisations. The Society for Family Health’s mission is to empower Nigerians, particularly the poor and vulnerable, to lead healthier lives.

The project is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

Society for Family Health is implementing the following maternal and neonatal health innovations in Gombe State of North-Eastern Nigeria:

  • Provision of essential clean delivery kits (for emergency birth in rural communities) and micro nutrient supplements, establishment of a functional Call Centre and transport to facility-based care, through an Emergency Transport Scheme.
  • Training Traditional Birth Attendants and Community Volunteers to deliver key health messages as well as refer pregnant women and mothers of newborns to health facilities.
  • Training of Midwives and health providers in health facilities on Kangaroo Mother Care, Essential Newborn Care, use of Misoprostol, and labour management.
