Emergency Transport Schemes for obstetric and newborn complications

Lessons from North-Eastern Nigeria and Uttar Pradesh, India

We are very pleased to present two speakers at this seminar.

Fatima Muhammad heads up the Maternal and Neonatal Healthcare Improvement Project run by the Society for Family Health in North-Eastern Nigeria. She will describe a collaboration with the Nigerian National Union of Road Transport Workers which seeks to train and organise Union members to provide emergency transport to a health facility for women and newborns.

Monica Tripathi is the Maternal and Newborn Health Advisor on Intrahealth's Manthan project in Uttar Pradesh. She will speak about the project’s work in Jhansi District on an integrated emergency transport scheme for women and newborns to enhance timely referral to a health facility, with a particular focus on enhancing access to care among poor families by reducing the cost of transport. There will be an opportunity for discussion following the presentations.
